The thirty-eighth America’s Cup is sailed in the Bay of Naples, just off the waterfront of the city. Emirates Team New Zealand defends, for the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron; GB1, for the Royal Yacht Squadron and led by Sir Ben Ainslie, is the Challenger of Record.

The first time in Italy.

The Trophy

The Royal Yacht Squadron first presented the trophy more than 175 years ago. Team New Zealand won the twenty-ninth Cup in 1995 and defended it in Auckland in 2000; Emirates Team New Zealand took it back in Bermuda in 2017, and its win in Barcelona in 2024 was the first “three-peat” by a continuous team.

Alinghi, in the words of Tudor Team Alinghi’s David Endean, is “the only European challenger ever to win the trophy”.

The Louis Vuitton Cup

The challengers race first, for the Louis Vuitton Cup: fleet races on 22 and 23 May, three round robins between 26 May and 11 June, a repêchage on 12 and 13 June, the semi-finals from 16 to 20 June and the final from 26 June to 4 July.

The Match follows, first to seven wins, from 10 to 19 July, with provision for extra days. It opens on Saturday 10 July with two races and is due to end over the weekend of 17 and 18 July; 19 July is the last day if it goes the distance. The Regatta Director is Iain Murray.

What to Know

At the Naples regatta of 2026 the Race Village, at Rotonda Diaz on Via Francesco Caracciolo, was free to all, with big screens and the boats’ dock-out and dock-in shows.

In 2026 racing started at two in the afternoon, and spectator boats had to register, keep to marshalled zones, not anchor, and listen on VHF channel 69.

BWA Yachting runs the official superyacht programme: berthing, viewing zones on the water, hospitality and a private social calendar. No tickets or grandstands are published.

The America’s Cup publishes no dress code for spectators. The Court wears yachting attire.

How one becomes a member is set out under Admission.
