SALZBURG EASTER FESTIVAL
Late March · Großes Festspielhaus, Salzburg · Ten Days · Since 1967
2027: 20 to 29 March, the sixtieth anniversary
The Salzburg Easter Festival was founded in 1967 by Herbert von Karajan and is held in the Großes Festspielhaus.
In 2027 it runs from the twentieth to the twenty-ninth of March, and marks its sixtieth anniversary.
Die Walküre
The anniversary brings a new production of Die Walküre, conducted by Kirill Petrenko and staged by Kirill Serebrennikov. Lise Davidsen sings her first Brünnhilde.
The Festspielhaus
The opera and the concerts are given in the Großes Festspielhaus, with chamber music elsewhere in the city.
What to Know
Tickets are sold by the festival.
The Court wears black tie.
It is a separate festival from the Mozartwoche, held by the International Mozarteum Foundation in January, and from the Salzburg Festival in summer. Each has its own organiser.
The Court
The Salzburg Easter Festival is not the Court’s own. Seats are sought on a member’s behalf, and the Court arranges the whole of it: getting there, where to stay, and the table afterward.
How one becomes a member is set out under Admission.
