THE ART FAIRS AND AUCTION WEEKS

The art year moves between a few cities, and the fairs and evening sales are what set its pace. This guide sets out the art fairs and auction weeks in the Court’s calendar by season, with the dates as the Court’s engagement pages give them and the dress the Court wears. Where a page gives no date yet, the Court gives no date here. Ticket prices are not given; they are best read on each organiser’s page.

Late autumn: November and December

Salon Art + Design, Park Avenue Armory, New York. Wednesday 4 to Sunday 8 November 2026; the 2027 dates to follow. The Court wears a lounge suit.

Paris Photo, the Grand Palais, Paris. 12 to 15 November 2026, with the vernissage on 11 November; the 2027 dates to follow. Founded in 1997, it calls itself “the leading international fair dedicated to photography and image-based art”. The Court wears a lounge suit.

Hospices de Beaune, the Halles de Beaune. Sunday 15 November 2026. The Hospices’ wine sale is an auction, held each year on the third Sunday of November, as it has been since 1859; the proceeds go to the Hospices’ hospital. The Court wears a lounge suit.

The Autumn Auctions, Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Phillips, New York. Sales from 17 to 20 November 2026, the exhibitions from 7 November; the 2027 dates to follow. This is not one organiser’s engagement: it is a run of evening sales, each house setting its own calendar, so no single dress code applies. The Court wears a lounge suit.

Art Basel Miami Beach, the Miami Beach Convention Center. VIP Days 2 and 3 December, public days 4 to 6 December 2026; the 2027 dates to follow. Art Basel’s American fair, first held in 2002, it closes the art year in the first week of December. The Court wears a lounge suit.

Winter: January to March

Art SG, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. 22 to 24 January 2027. The youngest fair here, first held in 2023, it opens the art year. The Court wears a lounge suit.

Frieze Los Angeles, Santa Monica Airport. 25 to 28 February 2027. Frieze, which began in London in 2003, has held a Los Angeles fair since 2019. The Court wears a lounge suit.

TEFAF Maastricht, Maastricht. 13 to 18 March 2027, with previews on 11 and 12 March, which TEFAF says are “by invitation only”. Held since 1988, it is the great fair of old masters and antiquities as well as modern work. The Court wears a lounge suit.

Art Basel Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. 25 to 27 March 2027. Art Basel’s Asian fair, held since 2013. The Court wears a lounge suit.

Spring: April and May

Art Dubai, Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai. 7 to 11 April 2027. Held since 2007, it gathers galleries from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. The Court wears a lounge suit.

The New York International Antiquarian Book Fair, Park Avenue Armory, New York. 15 to 18 April 2027. The fair is presented by the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America. The Court wears a lounge suit.

Frieze New York, The Shed, New York. 12 to 16 May 2027. The Court wears a lounge suit.

TEFAF New York, Park Avenue Armory, New York. 14 to 18 May 2027. The Court wears a lounge suit.

Summer: June

Art Basel, Messe Basel. 17 to 20 June 2027. The original Art Basel, founded by Basel gallerists in 1970, and still the fair by which the others are measured. The Court wears a lounge suit.

On dress

The Court wears a lounge suit to every fair and sale in this guide. That is the Court’s own register for a day spent among galleries and salerooms, not an organiser’s requirement: none of the organisers above publishes a dress code on the pages the Court read. Should one do so, the Court will quote it here in its own words.

Dates to follow
