THE 2027 SOCIAL SEASON: A CALENDAR

The Season no longer keeps to London and the summer. It begins in the southern hemisphere in January and moves north with the weather, through the winter balls of New York and Vienna, the spring race meetings and art fairs, the English summer and the festivals of Austria and Bavaria, and it closes in October in Paris, at Ascot and in Texas.

This calendar sets out the main engagements of 2027, month by month. Each date is the one shown on the Court’s engagement page, which takes it from the organiser; each line links to that page and gives the dress the Court wears. It is a selection. The Almanac holds the full list, and engagements whose 2027 dates the organisers have not yet published appear there, not here.

January

The year opens at Melbourne Park with The Australian Open, 11 to 31 January 2027; smart casual. In Florida The Winter Equestrian Festival runs from 6 January to 4 April 2027 at Wellington; lounge suit. In Kitzbühel The Hahnenkamm Races are held from 22 to 24 January 2027; country attire. The Venice Carnival runs from 23 January to 9 February 2027; black tie, with period costume where the code requires it. In New York the month ends with The Piarist Debutante Ball at the University Club on 30 January 2027; white tie, with black tie also permitted.

February

The Vienna Opera Ball is on 4 February 2027, inside the State Opera; white tie. The organiser gives the doors as 20:15 and the opening as 22:00. The Saudi Cup is run at Riyadh on 5 and 6 February 2027; lounge suit, with a tie. New York has two balls: The Washington Birthday Ball at the Metropolitan Club on 19 February 2027, and The Winter Ball at Cipriani South Street on 27 February 2027; black tie for both.

March

TEFAF Maastricht runs from 13 to 18 March 2027, with previews on 11 and 12 March; lounge suit. The Cheltenham Festival is at Prestbury Park from 16 to 19 March 2027; country attire. The month closes at Meydan with The Dubai World Cup on 27 March 2027; lounge suit.

April

The Masters is played at Augusta National from 8 to 11 April 2027; smart casual. The Grand National meeting is at Aintree from 8 to 10 April 2027; lounge suit. In New York The Save Venice Ball is on 29 April 2027; black tie, and the organiser calls it a “black-tie masked ball”. Its venue has not been confirmed.

May

The Kentucky Derby is at Churchill Downs on 1 May 2027; lounge suit, with a hat. Cannes Film Festival runs from 11 to 22 May 2027; black tie in the evening. Frieze New York is at The Shed from 12 to 16 May 2027, and The Chelsea Flower Show at the Royal Hospital Chelsea from 18 to 22 May 2027; lounge suit for both. Glyndebourne Festival Opera opens its season, which runs from 20 May to 29 August 2027; black tie.

June

Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix is from 3 to 6 June 2027; lounge suit, with yachting attire on the water. The Epsom Derby is run on 5 June 2027, the Oaks on 4 June; morning dress. Royal Ascot is from 15 to 19 June 2027; morning dress in the Royal Enclosure, a lounge suit in the Queen Anne and Village. Art Basel is at Messe Basel from 17 to 20 June 2027; lounge suit. The Championships, Wimbledon run from 28 June to 11 July 2027, and Henley Royal Regatta from 29 June to 4 July 2027; lounge suit for both.

July

The Henley Festival follows on the same banks from 7 to 11 July 2027; black tie, which the organiser also gives. The Salzburg Festival runs from 16 July to 29 August 2027; black tie to the opera, Tracht to Jedermann. The Bayreuth Festival runs from 25 July to 24 August 2027; black tie. Glorious Goodwood is from 27 to 31 July 2027; lounge suit, linen, with a panama. Cowes Week begins on the Solent and runs from 31 July to 6 August 2027; yachting attire, with a blazer ashore.

August

The Dublin Horse Show is at the RDS from 4 to 8 August 2027; lounge suit. The Glorious Twelfth falls on 12 August 2027; country attire. Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is on 15 August 2027; lounge suit. The Hampton Classic runs at Bridgehampton from 29 August to 5 September 2027; lounge suit.

September

Goodwood Revival is from 17 to 19 September 2027; a lounge suit cut to the period. The Ryder Cup is played at Adare Manor from 17 to 19 September 2027, with practice from 14 September; smart casual. The Monaco Yacht Show is at Port Hercule from 22 to 25 September 2027; yachting attire.

October

The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is run at ParisLongchamp on Sunday 3 October 2027; lounge suit. British Champions Day is at Ascot on 16 October 2027; lounge suit. The calendar closes in Austin with Formula 1 United States Grand Prix, 22 to 24 October 2027; smart casual.

The rest of the year

Organisers have not yet published 2027 dates for several engagements the Court keeps, among them the debutante balls of New York, Paris and London and the autumn opening nights. Their pages give the 2027 dates as to follow, and they are added here when the organisers announce them.
